In today’s world family and friends are spread all over the world, not to mention people are busier than they have ever been before. Sometimes it is impossible to travel for a funeral or just to take the day off work. There are things you can do to offer your support and condolences when you are unable to attend the funeral of a friend or family members. Even though you are not able to be there physically you can still be there in thought and prayer. By visiting your church of choice you can pray for the family of the deceased and the deceased themselves. Let the family know that even though you are unable to attend, in your heart and theirs you will be there. To show your physical support you can send a flower arrangement or a fruit basket for the family. You can ask that a card be enclosed that will offer your condolences and thoughts to the family. This will show your support even when you can’t actually be there to show it. If you are close to the family you can call them often to be a good listener or to share fond memories of the deceased. This is similar to what people who are local to the family will be doing. Showing that you are there for support is something that every family and person needs in a time of loss. You don’t have to physically be there for the funeral to be able to show you care to the family of the departed. Whether you are thousands of miles away or just across the city and unable to attend you should still off the family a shoulder to cry on. Words and actions are always more important than anything when you loose a loved one. |
